Abstract

Ukrainian communities are supported by horizontal ties. It so happened that we were a stateless country for a long time. And this means that the power (state, political) verticals that were built, especially after 1654, were perceived as hostile, alien, foreign and, accordingly, imperial. When it was not about adapting to the system, but about survival and building one's own community, home, school, identity, people united horizontally. Turning to the historical and cultural process gives us dozens of such examples.
