ФІЛОСОФІЯ ІСТОРІЇ ОЛЕКСАНДРА ШУЛЬГИНА. Стаття 1: Від Французької революції до революції Української

Стаття є першою частиною розвідки, присвяченої філософії історії Олександра Шульгина (1889–1960) – українського державного діяча, дипломата і науковця. На підставі аналізу корпусу творів і політичної та інтелектуальної траєкторії О. Шульгина у статті зроблено низку висновків, зокрема: його корпус творів поділяється на дві практично рівноцінні частини – україномовну та франкомовну, а його франкомовні твори залишаються найменш вивченими, попри те, що частина з них вже перекладена українською; життєву траєкторію О. Шульгина можна розділити на три періоди: навчання в Петроградському університеті й фахове становлення як історика та дослідника (1908–1917), активна політична й публіцистична діяльність в період від революції 1917 року до Другої світової війни, а також зосередження на дослідницькій діяльності після неї; як публіцист і комунікатор О. Шульгин реалізувався у двох напрямках: відстоювання власної політичної позиції всередині українського руху (переважно українською) та боротьба за визнання незалежності України на Заході й популяризація знань про Україну та українську історію (переважно французькою); як дослідник він працював у царині національного питання та філософії історії, причому свої «головні книги» у цих царинах він опублікував французькою.
У статті показано, що філософсько-історичні погляди О. Шульгина формувалась у контексті того напряму історіографії, де він спеціалізувався як історик – історія Західної Європи, передусім Французької революції. Водночас сформоване в суто академічному контексті його розуміння історії пройшло випробування Українською революцією: саме досвід цієї революції не лише перетворив ученого історика на публічного інтелектуала та комунікатора, а й визначив історичну свідомість О. Шульгина та його філософію історії.
