Abstract

The double anniversary of the centenary of the birth of John Rawls (1921-2002) and the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of his most famous book, The Theory of Justice (1971), was a significant intellectual event last and is last widely discussed this year. Numerous conferences and round tables, articles and books, TV shows, and popular magazine publications dedicated to Rawls's anniversary have become not only a tribute to the memory of "the most important political theorist of the twentieth century," as described by Jürgen Habermas, but also a testament to his great interest in his legacy.
